Product feedback
Run it once someone has used the product for a few weeks.
Ask: “What were you trying to do the last time the product got in your way?”
A product research survey is worth sending when its answers change what you build next. Here is how to ask about features, run NPS, screen people for interviews and learn why users leave. Then build it free, with no cap on responses.
Unlimited responses on the free plan, with logic and every integration included.

The basics
A product research survey is a short set of questions sent to people who use your product, tried it, or left it, to settle a product decision: which problem to solve next, which feature to build first, whether a beta is ready, or why accounts cancel.
It is not the same as a market research survey, which studies a market you may not serve yet. Product research starts from real usage, so its best questions ask about things people have already done. Before you write one, settle four things.
Pick one
Each answers a different question. Run the one your next decision needs.
Run it once someone has used the product for a few weeks.
Ask: “What were you trying to do the last time the product got in your way?”
Run it when the backlog holds more good ideas than your team can build this quarter.
Ask: “Which of these would you use every week? Choose up to 3.”
Run it every quarter to the same segment, so a change in the score means something.
Ask: the 0–10 recommendation question on a Slider Scale, then one open “why”.
Run it on your cancellation page or in the cancellation email, while the reason is fresh.
Ask: “What was the main reason you canceled?” as a single choice, then a long text.
Run it before a launch, to find the people who feel the problem most.
Ask: “What do you use today to solve this?” and a yes/no on joining the beta.
Run it when you need six good calls, not six hundred opinions.
Ask: behavior questions with decoys; logic ends the form for anyone who does not fit.
Prioritization
Upform has no drag-to-rank question and no matrix grid. Three simpler formats are easier to answer on a phone and easier to count.
Keep the list to six or seven options and add “None of these”. Upform does not shuffle options, so list them in a neutral order. More in the ranking questions and matrix questions guides.

Which of these would you use every week?
Choose up to 3.
Multiple Choice with a three-pick limit, as respondents see it.
Copy these
Fifteen questions for a reporting tool. Swap in your product and cut anything that does not feed a decision.
1 →
How likely are you to recommend us to a colleague?
0 is not at all likely, 10 is extremely likely.
Slider Scale from 0 to 10, in the Dark theme.
NPS
Net Promoter Score asks one question on a 0 to 10 scale. In Upform that is a Slider Scale set from 0 to 10 in steps of 1, because the Rating question starts at 1.
Interview screeners
A short screener finds people who recently did the thing you want to learn about, and ends the form for everyone else.
Conditional Logic
3 rules configured

Where answers land
Connect the form once, and each response arrives where product decisions get made. Every integration is on the free plan.
Know the limits
Upform is a form on a link. That covers most product research, not all of it.
| What you need | In Upform | What to do instead |
|---|---|---|
| An in-app survey or website popup | Not available | Link to the form from your help menu or a release note, or embed it on a page you control. See how to embed a form. |
| Knowing which user answered | Upform cannot see who is logged in to your product | Ask for a work email, or give each segment its own form and link. |
| Ranking and matrix questions | No ranking type, no matrix grid | Multiple Choice with a selection limit, or one Rating per feature. |
| NPS score and statistics | No scoring, calculations or significance tests | Export a CSV or connect Google Sheets and calculate there. |
| Response analytics | Views, starts, completion rate, average time, devices and countries | The question funnel counts submitted responses, so it shows skipped optional questions, not the screen where people quit. |
| Enough responses to trust | Unlimited on the free plan | Send it to everyone in the segment. |
Tag open answers and run statistics in a spreadsheet or a dedicated research tool.
Two weeks
One decision, one segment, a survey short enough to finish between tasks.
One sentence, plus the answer that would change the plan.
Who answers, and the event that triggers the send.
Clone a template, add logic, and watch three users answer it on a call.
Pipe answers to Notion or Slack, then share the link or embed it.
Read every open answer, tag the themes, and write the decision on one page.

Not as an in-app intercept or a website popup: Upform has neither. You can link to the form from your app's help menu, a release note or an email, or embed it with an iframe on any page you control, such as a help center article or your cancellation page.
Use a Multiple Choice question with a maximum of three selections and count how often each feature is picked, or a Single Choice that asks for the one feature that matters most. For strength of need, ask one 1 to 5 Rating per feature. Upform has no ranking or matrix question type.
Yes, with a Slider Scale set from 0 to 10 in steps of 1. The Rating question starts at 1, so it is the wrong type for NPS. Upform does not calculate the score itself: send the answers to Google Sheets or export a CSV, then subtract the share of detractors from the share of promoters.
No. Upform cannot see who is logged in to your product, so it only knows what people type. Ask for a work email when you need to follow up, or create one form per segment and send each link only to that group, so the form itself tells you the segment.
Yes. The free plan is free forever, not a trial, and it includes unlimited forms, unlimited responses, all 21 question types, conditional logic and every integration, Notion and Slack included. Typeform's free plan is widely reported to cap you at 10 responses a month; pricing checked September 2026, so verify before you decide. Pro is 12 dollars a month and only adds unlimited file storage, branding removal and up to five team members.
