CompareTypeform vs Jotform, feature by feature

A Jotform alternative without submission limits

Jotform's free plan stops at five forms and 100 submissions a month. Upform's free plan has no cap on either, adds conditional logic and every integration, and asks one question per screen instead of scrolling people through a wall of fields.

The short answer

Pick Upform if volume and completion matter. Stay on Jotform if you need payments or PDFs.

Jotform is a deep, mature product with a huge template library, payment collection and document generation. It is also metered: submissions are counted on every tier, and the free Starter plan is published at 100 a month across a maximum of five forms.

Upform counts nothing. Unlimited forms, unlimited responses, all 21 question types, all 20 conditional logic operators and all nine integrations are on the $0 plan. What it does not have is a payment field or a PDF generator. If those are the point of your form, Jotform wins that job and you should keep it.

The ceiling

Where Jotform's free plan stops

Jotform's free Starter tier is generous with features and strict with volume. The numbers it publishes are the ones you hit first.

Five forms is enough for a contact page and a job application, then you are pruning. One hundred submissions a month sounds fine until a campaign lands and the form quietly stops accepting answers mid-week. One thousand monthly form views is the limit you never think about. Views are counted whether or not anyone fills anything in, so an embedded form on a busy page burns through the allowance on its own.

Upgrading raises the ceiling rather than removing it. Bronze, Silver and Gold each come with their own monthly submission allowance, so the same conversation comes back every time your volume grows. If you want the maths on how metered pricing compounds, the same pattern is covered in our guide to form pricing tiers.

Being fair

What Jotform does better than Upform

Four things Jotform has that we do not. If your form depends on one of them, switching is the wrong move.

Taking payments inside the form

Jotform connects to more than thirty payment gateways, handles products, subscriptions and donations, and can run the whole checkout inside the form. Upform has no payment field at all. For an order form, a paid booking or a donation page, use Jotform or a dedicated checkout.

Documents and signatures

Jotform turns submissions into formatted PDFs and collects legally recognized signatures through Jotform Sign. Upform does neither. There is no signature field and no PDF builder. Contracts, waivers and anything that has to be countersigned belong somewhere else.

Sheer breadth of templates and widgets

Jotform's library runs to thousands of templates and hundreds of widgets for niche inputs. Upform ships a smaller, curated template gallery you can preview live and clone in one click. Broad beats curated when your form is unusual.

The wider back office

Jotform sells more than a form: tables, approval flows, apps and compliance options on higher tiers, including HIPAA features for regulated work. If you need a signed business associate agreement, choose a vendor that offers one. Upform is a form builder with analytics, not a workflow suite.

The runtime

One question per screen, not a page of fields

A classic Jotform form shows everything at once. A long scroll tells the visitor exactly how much work they are about to do, and a lot of them decide not to.

Upform asks one thing at a time. A short branded loading overlay puts your logo, font and background in place first, then questions arrive with a smooth transition. Enter continues, Shift+Enter makes a newline, arrow keys move back and forward, 1–9 and A–Z pick choices and Y/N answers a yes-no. On phones every target is full width with a sticky back and next bar at the bottom. The pattern is covered in more depth under conversational forms and in our guide to form abandonment.

  • Progress shown as a bar, dots or a percentage (your choice)
  • Logic jumps skip whole blocks of questions people never see
  • Invisible reCAPTCHA v3 on public submissions, no puzzle to solve

The builder

A builder you can read at a glance

Jotform's editor is powerful and dense, with widgets, tabs, properties and panels stacked around a canvas. Upform gives you three columns and nothing else.

The step list is on the left and you drag to reorder it, with Thank You pinned to the end. The middle is a 1:1 live preview with desktop, tablet and mobile toggles, so what you see is what the respondent gets. The right panel switches between Question, Design, Logic, Connect, Share and Results. Saves are manual and the tab warns you before you leave with unsaved changes. From there the flow is simply Builder, then Share, then Results. See the form builder in detail.

Migration

Moving off Jotform in an afternoon

There is no one-click importer. There is also not much to import. Most teams rebuild their two or three live forms and stop there.

  1. Export your submissions first

Download every Jotform submission as CSV before you touch anything. Your history stays yours regardless of what happens to the account, and you can keep the export alongside your new data.

  2. Rebuild the form that actually matters

Start from a template such as the quote request form or the client intake form, then swap in your own questions. A ten-question form takes a few minutes, not an afternoon.

  3. Recreate the logic

Open the Logic panel and add rules. Each rule is a set of conditions joined with AND or OR, and the action is show, hide, jump or end form. Twenty operators cover text, numbers, dates, file uploads and whether a question was answered at all.

  4. Reconnect your destinations

In the Connect panel, authorize your own account for Google Sheets, Slack, HubSpot, Mailchimp, Klaviyo, monday.com or Notion, or point a webhook at n8n with the signed header. Responses start landing where your team already works.

  5. Publish, then run both for a week

Share the public link or paste the embed snippet where the Jotform embed used to be. Leave the old form up for a week, compare completion rates in analytics, then turn it off once the new one is clearly winning.

Frequently asked questions

What are Jotform's free plan limits?

Jotform publishes its free Starter plan as five forms, 100 form submissions a month, 1,000 monthly form views and 100 MB of storage, with Jotform branding on the form. Paid tiers raise those numbers rather than remove them, so submissions stay metered as you grow. Check Jotform's pricing page before you decide, because the published figures change.

Is Upform free, or is it a free trial?

The free plan is permanent, not a trial. It includes unlimited forms, unlimited responses, all 21 question types, every template, conditional logic and every integration, with 100 MB of file storage and Upform branding on your forms. Pro is $12 a month and adds unlimited file storage, branding removal and up to five team members.

Does Upform collect payments like Jotform?

No. Upform has no payment field and no payment gateway integrations, so it cannot take money inside a form. If checkout is part of the job, Jotform is the better tool for that form. Many teams keep payments where they are and move everything else, such as intake, briefs and feedback, to Upform.

Can I move my Jotform forms to Upform?

There is no one-click Jotform importer today, so you rebuild the form in Upform, which usually takes a few minutes per form. Export your existing Jotform submissions to CSV first so your history is safe, then run both forms in parallel for a week before you switch the link. Upform does have a one-way Google Forms import if any of your forms live there.

Does the free plan include conditional logic?

Yes. All 20 logic operators and all four actions, which are show, hide, jump and end form, are on the free plan. Each rule is a group of conditions joined with AND or OR, so you can branch on an answer, a number range, a date or whether a file was uploaded. There is no scoring or calculation engine in Upform.

Can I embed an Upform form on my website?

Yes. Every published form has a public link you can share anywhere and an iframe embed snippet you can paste into a site, a landing page or an email tool. Forms stay private until you publish them, and public submissions are protected by invisible reCAPTCHA v3.

What happens to my responses if I never upgrade?

Nothing. Responses are not locked, hidden or deleted behind a paywall, and there is no monthly cap that stops collection once you pass it. You can read every answer in the responses table, open any single response in a drawer and export the whole set to CSV on the free plan.

Pro accounts are set up by hand while online checkout is being finished. Email hello@upform.com and the team replies the same day. Full detail is on the pricing page.
