Form builder alternatives: Upform vs everyone else
Twelve form builders, five questions that actually decide it: how many responses you get for free, whether logic is paywalled, whether you can remove the vendor's branding, and what the first paid plan really costs. Upform is in the table too, and it is not flattered.

Upform Pro, per month
Most form builder comparisons are written by whoever is selling one of the tools. This one is too, so here is the bias up front: Upform is a conversational form builder whose free plan has no response limit, and that is the single thing we think most people are shopping for. Every other cell in the table below is reported as we found it.
The pattern across the market is consistent. Free plans are generous with forms and stingy with responses, because responses are what you only discover you need after the form is live and shared. Typeform's free tier is widely reported at 10 responses a month; Jotform's at 100; Wufoo's at 100. A form that works is a form that fills up, and a form that fills up is a form that stops working on those plans. Our breakdown of Typeform pricing walks through how the tiers escalate once you cross that line.

Competitor pricing and free-plan limits checked September 2026 on each vendor's public pricing page. Plans change often and some vendors price by region or by seat, so verify on their site before you decide. Upform's own numbers: unlimited forms and responses on Free, Pro at $12/month as a launch offer against a $24 list price.
Beyond the spec sheet
The limit you hit is almost never the one you shopped for
People pick a form builder on question types and switch on something else entirely: a capped inbox, a logic rule that needs a paid tier, a logo they cannot remove on a client-facing form.
- Responses keep arriving after the cap. On most free plans they are collected and hidden until you pay, or refused outright.
- Logic is the usual upsell. Upform ships all 20 operators and all four actions (show, hide, jump, end form) on the free plan.
- Integrations are often gated too. All nine Upform integrations, Google Sheets and Slack included, work at $0.
- Branding is the honest paywall. Ours is the one thing the free plan holds back, at $12/month to remove.

Alternatives
Pick the tool you are leaving
Each page covers what that product is genuinely good at, where it stops, and what changes if you move the same form to Upform.
Typeform alternative
Best for teams that want the polished conversational format and can absorb response-based pricing. Upform keeps the format and drops the cap.
Compare with TypeformGoogle Forms alternative
Best for fast internal collection when the answers land in Sheets and nobody outside the company sees the form. Upform is the version you can put your brand on.
Compare with Google FormsJotform alternative
Best for enormous template libraries and dense classic forms with payments. Upform trades that breadth for no form count and no submission cap.
Compare with JotformSurveyMonkey alternative
Best for research teams buying audience panels and benchmark data. If you only need to run your own survey and read every answer, the free tier is the wrong shape.
Compare with SurveyMonkeyMicrosoft Forms alternative
Best for schools and companies already inside Microsoft 365, where quizzes and grading are built in. Upform is what you use when the form faces customers.
Compare with Microsoft FormsTally alternative
Best for people who think in Notion blocks and want a document-shaped form. Upform is the same generosity with one question per screen instead.
Compare with TallyFormstack alternative
Best for regulated workflows that need documents, e-signature and approval chains in one suite. Overkill, and priced like it, for a feedback form.
Compare with FormstackWufoo alternative
Best for straightforward hosted forms with payment fields and a long track record. The free plan is tight and the builder shows its age.
Compare with WufooPaperform alternative
Best when the form is the landing page and it needs to take payment, with calculations built in. Upform is the free option when you only need the form.
Compare with PaperformCognito Forms alternative
Best for calculation-heavy forms: quotes, order totals, scored applications. Genuinely strong there, and the free tier is more generous than most.
Compare with Cognito FormsFillout alternative
Best for forms wired straight into an existing database like Airtable, with deep field mapping. Upform is simpler and does not meter your month.

Two tools, one decision
Already down to a shortlist of two? These pages put them next to each other on price, logic, design control and where the data ends up.
Typeform vs Google Forms
Beautiful and capped against plain and free. The most common fork in the road, settled on completion rate and cost.
Typeform vs Jotform
One question per screen against a thousand templates. Which format your respondents finish, and what each costs per month.
Typeform vs SurveyMonkey
Marketing forms against survey research. Question types, reporting depth, and the per-seat pricing that catches teams out.
Typeform vs Tally
The premium incumbent against the free challenger. Where Tally's block editor wins and where the conversational format still pays.
Google Forms vs Microsoft Forms
The two free giants, judged on quizzes, sharing rules, response limits and how well each behaves outside its own suite.
Upform vs Typeform
The full line-by-line, including the parts where Typeform is still ahead. Read this one before you switch.
A short method
How to choose a form builder
Five checks, in this order. Most people run them in reverse, start with price, and end up migrating a live form three months later.
Rule of thumb: multiply the responses you expect in month three by twelve, then look at what that volume costs on each plan. The tool that is free at 50 responses and $99 at 5,000 is not a cheap tool.
Count the responses you actually need
This is the limit that bites first. A monthly cap of 10 or 100 is fine for an internal poll and useless for a contact form on a live site. Check whether over-cap responses are refused or merely hidden behind an upgrade, because the second kind quietly loses you leads.
Test the logic against your worst form
Every builder claims conditional logic. Ask it to skip a whole branch when someone answers "no", to hide a question when a file was not uploaded, and to end the form early for the wrong fit. Upform's logic engine has 20 operators and four actions, and it is on the free plan.
Decide how much design control you need
If the form is customer-facing, you need your logo, your font, your colors and no vendor badge in the corner. If it is internal, you do not, and Google Forms is hard to beat. Upform's design panel covers colors, a Google font picker, radius, alignment and progress style.
Follow the data to where it has to land
A response sitting in a form tool is not doing any work. Check the destination you actually use (a sheet, Slack, your CRM, a webhook) and whether it costs extra. All nine Upform integrations connect your own account and run on the free plan.
Price it at scale, not at signup
Compare the tier you will be on in a year, with the seats you will need, not the headline number. Per-seat and per-response pricing look similar at one user and diverge fast. Upform Pro is $12/month flat and includes five team members.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best free alternative to Typeform?
If the thing you need is responses, Upform is the closest match: it keeps the one-question-per-screen format Typeform is known for, and its free plan has no monthly response cap. Typeform's free plan is widely reported at 10 responses a month, which runs out fast on anything public. Tally is the other genuinely uncapped option, though it is a block-style editor rather than a conversational one.
Which form builders have no response limit on the free plan?
Three in this comparison: Upform, Google Forms and Tally. Google Forms is uncapped but plain and unbranded, and its logic is limited to jumping between sections. Upform and Tally both give you unlimited responses plus real conditional logic at $0, so the choice between them comes down to whether you want a conversational form or a document-style one.
Do I lose conditional logic if I pick a free form builder?
On most of them, yes. Logic is the usual paywall: Typeform, SurveyMonkey and Wufoo all restrict it on the free tier, and Formstack and Paperform have no free tier at all. Upform includes the full logic engine on the free plan, which is 20 operators and four actions: show, hide, jump and end form.
Can I move my existing forms into Upform?
Google Forms has a one-way import: point Upform at a Google Form and it recreates the questions in your account. For every other tool there is no automated migration, so the fastest route is to start from a template and paste your questions across. Most forms take under ten minutes because you are only moving question text, not settings.
What does Upform not do yet?
There is no scoring or calculation engine, so quizzes that add up points and forms that price a quote live are better served by Cognito Forms or Paperform. There is no signature field. Checkout is not online yet either: Pro accounts are set up by hand after you email us, and Calendly and Excel Online are on the roadmap rather than shipped.
