Paperform plans, trial length and limits checked September 2026 on Paperform's public pricing page; Upform's on our own pricing page. Plans change, so verify both before you decide.

The three reasons

Why people look for a Paperform alternative

Almost nobody leaves Paperform because the builder is bad. They leave because the bill arrives before the form has proved itself.

The trial ends whether you are ready or not

Fourteen days is enough to build a form. It is rarely enough to know whether the form works. A waitlist that collects nine sign-ups in its first fortnight still has to be paid for in week three, before anyone can tell you it was worth it.

You pay for the whole toolbox

Paperform's price reflects calculations, payments, scheduling and a signature product. If your form is a contact form, a client intake or a feedback survey, you are renting machinery you never switch on. Upform's pricing has two lines and one of them is free.

A long page still reads as a long page

The document editor is elegant to write in, but the respondent sees every field at once and decides how much of their evening it is worth. One question per screen hides the length and keeps people moving to the end.

Being straight with you

What Paperform still does better

Four of these are not close. If any one of them is load-bearing for your form, stay where you are. A cheaper tool that cannot do the job is not a saving.

Calculations and scoring

Paperform can add, multiply and score. Quote builders, quiz grades, order totals that change as options are ticked. All of that is native. Upform's logic routes people, it does not compute values, so there is no equivalent and no workaround worth pretending about.

Taking money in the form

Products, quantities, coupons, subscriptions and a card field at the end: Paperform handles the whole transaction. Upform has no payment field at all. If the form is also the checkout, this page ends here and Paperform wins.

The document-style editor

Writing a Paperform feels like writing a page, with questions dropped into the prose. It is genuinely lovely for forms carrying a lot of explanation. Upform's builder is a step list with a live preview: faster for a twelve-question flow, less expressive for a long one.

Scheduling, signatures and scale

Paperform has booking fields, a separate e-signature product, custom domains and a much bigger template gallery, built up over years. Upform has none of those. It has an unlimited free plan, which is a different kind of answer.

The swap

A form that asks one thing at a time

This is what you get in exchange, and none of it sits behind a plan. The published form loads your branding first, then asks question one, and every question after it takes the full screen.

  • One question per screen, with a smooth transition between steps
  • Enter to continue, Shift+Enter for a newline, 1–9 and A–Z to pick a choice, Y and N for yes-no
  • Your logo, colors, Google font, corner radius and progress style (bar, dots or percentage)
  • Full-width targets and a sticky back/next bar on a phone
  • A drop-off funnel showing the exact question people quit on

Roughly what is the budget for this project?

A number in USD. An estimate is fine.

4,000
Next →press Enter ↵
Where the honesty lives Logic can branch on this number (greater than, less than, between) and send a $40,000 enquiry down a different path from a $400 one. It cannot multiply it by anything. Upform routes; it does not calculate.

After the submit

The answers land where you already work

Every destination below is on the free plan, connected with your own account, with no automation tool in the middle.

Migration

Moving a Paperform across in four steps

There is no Paperform importer. In practice a ten-question form is rebuilt in under twenty minutes, because the field types line up almost one to one and the writing is already done.

  1. Export your responses first

Download your Paperform submissions as CSV before you cancel anything. Upform does not import response history, and answer archives should never depend on a subscription staying active.

  2. Split the page into steps

This is the only real thinking in the move. One long page becomes a list of steps: each question gets its own screen, and the explanatory paragraphs between them become Statement steps that carry no input.

  3. Rebuild logic and branding

Recreate your rules in the Logic panel with the 20 operators and the four actions: show, hide, jump, end. Then set your logo, colors, font and radius in Design and save it as a reusable theme so the next form starts branded.

  4. Publish and point the traffic

Copy the public link or the iframe snippet and replace the old URL wherever it lives. If your Paperform took payments, send an invoice or a payment link from the response instead, or push it onward with a webhook.

Fit check

Who should switch, and who should not

Two minutes here saves you an afternoon of rebuilding a form in the wrong tool.

Upform is a good swap if

  • Your form collects information rather than money: intake, briefs, applications, feedback, registrations
  • The trial ran out before the form had proved it was worth a subscription
  • You want conditional logic and file uploads without a monthly line item
  • Completion rate matters to you, and a long scrolling page is losing people
  • You are a freelancer, small team, nonprofit or side project with no software budget

Stay on Paperform if

  • The form has to charge a card, sell products or handle subscriptions
  • You need calculations, a quote total or a graded score
  • Booking a time slot or signing a document is part of the flow
  • The form must sit on your own domain rather than an embed
  • More than five people need their own seat, or the page really is a document with fields in it

Frequently asked questions

Does Paperform have a free plan?

No. Paperform runs a 14-day free trial and then moves you onto a paid tier, starting around $24 a month at the time of writing. Upform's free plan is permanent, with unlimited forms and unlimited responses and no expiry date. Pricing changes, so check Paperform's own pricing page before you decide.

Can Upform do calculations like Paperform?

No. Upform's logic routes, it does not compute. There is no scoring engine, no calculated field and no running price total. Logic can branch on a number with operators like greater than, less than and between, but it cannot add one answer to another. If your form has to produce a figure, Paperform is the better tool.

Can I take payments inside an Upform form?

Not today. Upform has no payment field and no payment processor connection, so money cannot move inside the form. Most people collect the order details in Upform and send an invoice or a payment link afterwards, or pass the response to their billing tool with a webhook. If checkout has to happen in the form itself, stay on Paperform.

Can I import my Paperform into Upform?

Not in one click. Upform's only importer is a one-way import from Google Forms, so a Paperform is rebuilt by hand. A ten-question form usually takes ten to twenty minutes because the field types line up closely: copy the question text across, set the types, then rebuild your rules in the Logic panel.

Does Upform have conditional logic on the free plan?

Yes, and it costs nothing. Rules are a flat list, each one an AND or OR group of conditions built from 20 operators covering text, numbers, dates, choices and file uploads. Four actions are available: show a question, hide it, jump to another step, or end the form.

Can I put an Upform form on my own domain?

Not yet. Published forms live on an upform.com link. The usual workaround is the iframe embed, which drops the form into a page on your own site so your domain stays in the address bar. Paperform offers custom domains on its higher tiers, so this is a genuine point against Upform.

What happens to my Paperform responses if I switch?

Export them as CSV from Paperform before you cancel anything, because Upform does not import response history. New answers collected in Upform can be exported to CSV whenever you like, or piped into Google Sheets, Slack, Notion or HubSpot as they arrive.

How much is Upform Pro?

Pro is $12 a month, a launch offer at half the $24 list price. It adds unlimited file storage, branding removal, up to five team members and early access to new features. Online checkout is not live yet, so you email hello@upform.com with the subject Upform Pro upgrade request, and we set the account up by hand, usually the same day.
