The short answer

Google Analytics form tracking in Upform is connection only. In a form's Connect panel you sign in with your own Google account, pick a GA4 property and web data stream from the list, and save; Upform stores that property, stream and measurement ID on the form. It does not dispatch any events to Google Analytics today. For views, starts, submissions, completion rate, average completion time and the exact question people quit on, open the form's Results tab, which works on the free plan with unlimited responses.

Setup

How to connect Google Analytics to an Upform form

Setup takes a minute and happens in the Connect panel of the form you already built. Read the list under the screen before you start, so you know exactly what you are switching on.

  1. Open the Connect panel

Open the form in the builder, switch the right panel to Connect and choose Google Analytics. The setting belongs to one form, so a pricing survey and a demo request can point at different streams.

  2. Sign in with your Google account

A Google sign-in window opens and you authorize Upform over OAuth with your own account. There is no shared Upform property and no tracking snippet to copy anywhere.

  3. Pick a GA4 property and web stream

Upform lists the GA4 properties that account can see, with each web data stream and its measurement ID. Pick one, or choose Not tracked to take the form off Google Analytics again.

  4. Save, and know where it stops

Save and Upform stores the property, stream and measurement ID against the form. That is where the integration ends today: no events are dispatched from the form to Google Analytics.

The honest version

What the Google Analytics connection does today

Here is exactly what the connection covers today and what it does not, in two lists, before you build anything around it.

What it does

  • Signs in to your own Google account over OAuth, from the form's Connect panel
  • Lists the GA4 properties and web data streams that account can already see
  • Saves the property, stream and measurement ID on that form, one stream per form
  • Lets you switch a form to Not tracked, or disconnect the account, at any time

What it does not do today

  • Send page views, form starts or question events to GA4
  • Send a submission or conversion event when someone finishes the form
  • Pull GA4 reports or audiences back into Upform
  • Replace the Results tab, which is where Upform's own numbers live
Why it is listed at all

The connection and the tracking fields are real, shipped screens in the Connect panel, and leaving them off this site would be its own kind of misleading. Changes we ship are logged in what's new. Until event sending ships, plan around the two routes further down.

Built in

The form analytics you get without Google Analytics

Every published form records its own events from the first visit. Open the Results tab and the numbers most people set GA4 up to find are already there, per form, with no tag to install.

Example demo request form. The funnel flags the phone question as the heavy drop, which is the kind of fix a GA4 funnel on the host page would never point at. More in form analytics and drop-off.

Where to look

Upform Results or GA4: where each answer lives today

Most questions people want Google Analytics form tracking for are already answered inside Upform. One is not, and it belongs to your own site's tag.

What you want to knowWhere to find it todayWhy it matters
How many people opened the formResults tab: ViewsThe top of the funnel, counted on the published form itself.
How many started, and how many finishedResults tab: Starts, Submissions, Incomplete, Completion rateStarts and submissions side by side, so the gap between them is the number to work on.

Routes that work now

Two ways to count form submissions in GA4 today

Neither route is the integration doing the work for you, and each has a catch. Both use features that ship on the free plan, so you can set one up this afternoon.

Route one

Point the Thank You button at a page on your site

The Thank You screen at the end of every form carries a button with a label you write, and its Redirect after submit setting decides which URL that button opens, in a new tab. Point it at a page on your own site where your Google tag already runs, such as a /thanks page, and mark visits to that page as a key event in GA4.

  • A setting already in the builder, no code on the Upform side
  • The visit lands in your GA4 property like any other page view
  • Counts people who click the button, not every submission

Route two

Forward each submission from a webhook

Add a custom webhook to the same form and Upform POSTs the full response as JSON to your HTTPS endpoint on every submit. Your endpoint can then send its own event to GA4 through Google's Measurement Protocol, which counts every submission, including people who close the tab on the Thank You screen.

The catch: you write and host that code, and the payload carries the form, the submission and the answers, not a Google Analytics client ID, so the event will not be tied to the visitor's earlier session.

Set up a form webhook

Worth knowing

What your own tag still sees on an embedded form

Paste the embed snippet into a page and your Google tag keeps recording that page like any other, traffic source included. It cannot see inside the form, because the embed is an iframe served from app.upform.com, so starts, drop-off and submissions for that form stay in the Results tab.

Pair the two: GA4 tells you which campaign brought people to the page, and Upform tells you how many of them finished the form and where the rest stopped.

Share and embed a form

Integrations that dispatch

Where Upform does send your responses

If the real goal is getting each submission in front of people or into another system, these integrations dispatch on every submit today, on the free plan, from the same Connect panel.

Each of these connects with your own account and runs on the free plan. The full list, including the ones that are connection only or import only, lives in the integrations directory.

Frequently asked questions

Does Upform send form submissions to Google Analytics?

Not today. The Google Analytics integration is connection only: it signs in to your Google account and saves a GA4 property, web stream and measurement ID against the form, but Upform does not dispatch page views, form starts or submission events to Google Analytics. Connecting it will not add anything to your GA4 reports on its own.

What does connecting Google Analytics actually do?

It covers tracking setup. You authorize your own Google account over OAuth, Upform lists the GA4 properties and web data streams that account can see, and you save one stream per form or choose Not tracked. The connection and the saved IDs are real and stored on the form. Sending events to that stream is the part Upform does not do today.

How can I see form views and completion rate without Google Analytics?

Open the form's Results tab. It shows views, starts, submissions, incomplete responses, completion rate and average completion time, plus a per-question drop-off funnel, a device split and a country breakdown. It works on the free plan, for every form, with unlimited responses.

How do I count Upform submissions as conversions in GA4?

Two routes work today. Point the Thank You button's redirect at a page on your own site where your Google tag already runs and count visits to that page, keeping in mind it only counts people who click the button. Or send each submission to a custom webhook and forward it to GA4 from your own server, which counts every submission but means writing and hosting that code.

Will my Google tag track a form I embed on my website?

It tracks the page the form is embedded on, the same way it tracks any other page on your site. It cannot see inside the form, because the embed is an iframe served from app.upform.com. Starts, drop-off and submissions for that form stay in the Results tab in Upform.

Whose Google account does Upform connect to?

Yours. The connection is per-user OAuth, so you sign in with your own Google account and Upform only lists the GA4 properties that account can already see. There is no shared Upform property in the middle. Disconnect it from the Connect panel whenever you like and the form keeps collecting responses as before.

Do I need a paid plan for the Google Analytics integration?

No. Every integration is included on the free plan, which is $0 forever and comes with unlimited forms, unlimited responses, all 21 question types and conditional logic. Pro is $12 a month and adds unlimited file storage, removes Upform branding and allows up to five team members.
